Catchment Area

Catchment area is Fownhope, Woolhope and surrounding hamlets.

Feeder schools – in recent years children have moved to the following high schools – Bishop of Hereford Bluecoat school (we are a BHBS cluster school and so a feeder primary for Bishop’s; this means children are higher up the admissions criteria for Bishop’s), John Kyrle, St. Mary’s, Lugwardine, John Masefield, Ledbury.

Church

In 2009, the church inspector deemed St. Mary’s an outstanding Anglican school in respect of leadership, collective worship, RE curriculum and overarching ethos which meets the needs of learners. We believe our school is a Christian community in action and aim to provide a secure foundation in Christian teaching and values which will stand each child in good stead as they grow into adulthood.

Church involvement is a great strength of St. Mary’s and we are fortunate in being able to visit church for lessons and worship regularly. Our vicar is a frequent visitor to school and leads worship and lessons.

Collective worship is held daily and visitors may lead this. ACTS 2 lead worship once a month. Family members are warmly invited to join our Good News Assembly each week.

We link worship to a value of the month eg. Honesty, Caring, Responsibility.

In the community

Our children play an active part in the local community and support annual garden shows and events like the 2009 Guy Fawkes Festival. Playgroup is a vital part of our extended school community and accepts children from age 2 to school entry. Children who attend playgroup but who are not resident in catchment are given priority within our Admission Policy.

Our children support a wide range of local, national and international charities. In recent years, these include St. Michael’s hospice, Barnardo’s, the World Food Programme, the British Legion and Concern Universal.

We are linked to five schools in Rajshahi city, Bangladesh as part of a British Council project - Connecting Classrooms. Our children regularly exchange work with students in Rajshahi and
we host visits for staff from our partner schools.
